Frequently Asked Questions
Kayak Classes
Which class do I need to take?
If you've never paddled before, and even if you have but have never had formal instruction, we recommend you take the Intro to Paddling Class. This will give you the foundation for good paddling skills at whatever level you choose to paddle.
Follow it up with an Intermediate Paddling Skills class to further refine your technique.
For further refinement, you may look to take a Rolling class which will teach you that important self-rescue technique, or a Rescues class, in which you'll learn the basics of assisted rescues.
Private instruction is also available where we can tailor a lesson to your specific needs.
Where are your classes held?
Our kayak classes are held at Spruce Run Reservoir and the Delaware River. All classes meet at the event location. Upon registering, a confirmation letter will be emailed to you with all of the details including directions to the site. Check out our classes page for more information.
How do I pay for a class?
All registrations are done online. Pre-registration and payment in advance of the date of the trip or class is required to secure a spot.
Who can take a class?
You must be at least 12-years old to participate (12- to 15-year olds must by accompanied by an adult).
What about children and kayak classes?
A 3 hour class is generally too much for most childrens atention spans and I would suggest anyone less than 10 years old avoid them. You can bring your children on one of the scheduled weekend, sunset or Tuesday tours. This will give them good exposure to kayaking in a setting they are more likely to enjoy and appreciate. For these tours children 12 years and younger must share a tandem kayak with an adult.
Kayak Tours
Where are your tours?
We offer kayak tours all over NJ, from lakes and reservoirs, to rivers and coastal waterways. All tours meet at the event location. Upon registering, a confirmation letter will be emailed to you with all of the details including directions to the site. Check out our tours pages for more information.
How do I pay for a tour?
All registrations are done online. Pre-registration and payment in advance of the date of the trip or class is required to secure a spot.
Who can take a tour?
You must be at least 6 years old to participate (all persons 15 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult and any person 10 years old and under must share a tandem kayak with an adult). Our tours are rated for the difficulty of the paddle. You can find that information on our tours page.
What about children and kayak tours?
You can bring your children on one of the scheduled weekend, sunset or Tuesday tours. For these tours children 12 years and younger must share a tandem kayak with an adult.
Stand Up Paddling
Is SUP easy?
Stand up paddling is easy to learn. It does require some balance but the boards are wide and buoyant enough to offer a comfortable platform for you to learn.
What if I can't stand up for the entire time?
The beauty of SUP is their versatility. You can stand, sit, kneel and lie down on the board. With this in mind we always take the time to sit down and relax while dangling our feet over the sides of the board.
What age do I need to be to SUP?
SUP is great for people of all ages. For the events scheduled a minimum age of 6 years old is required.
